Sci., 19: 1-14 Over the past few years, the worldwide cost of energy has increased significantly, due to a growing global demand for energy and the decreasing availability of fossil fuel sources. Many countries are adopting environmental policies promoting the production and consumption of alternative, sustainable and renewable energy sources. Among these sources is green energy production through the anaerobic digestion of agricultural feedstock, like animal manure and food industry by-products, mainly aimed at producing biogas. Nevertheless, only a very small part of the biogas potential is currently used, while many European countries are facing huge problems caused by the overproduction of organic waste from industry, agriculture and households. biogas production is an excellent way of using organic waste for energy generation, followed by the recycling of the digested substratum (digestate) as fertiliser. Many factors, like chemical composition and pH of raw materials, environmental temperature and microbial composition, influence the efficiency and reliability of the anaerobic digestion process. this paper reviews the current state and perspectives of biogas and digestate production, including the above factors influencing the biogas and digestate yields of anaerobic digestion.

Post digestion of biogas production residues at mid-range mesophilic temperature
A common way to store digestate from anaerobic digesters is in open air lagoons. The aim of this study was to investigate whether cooling of digestate before transfer to the storage prevents methane production. Furthermore, if methanogenesis is not prevented, to determine the potential maximum methane slip from an open air lagoon, supplied with heat exchanged digestate from a mesophilic co-dige...
متن کاملQuality and function of anaerobic digestion residues
The growing number of biogas plants in Europe has resulted in increased production of nutrient-rich digestate, which has potential as fertiliser on arable land. Many different organic materials can be degraded in the anaerobic digestion process, with most macronutrients and micronutrients retained in the digestate. Depending on the ingoing organic substrate and management of the biogas process,...
متن کاملFungal fermentation on anaerobic digestate for lipid-based biofuel production
BACKGROUND Anaerobic digestate is the effluent from anaerobic digestion of organic wastes. It contains a significant amount of nutrients and lignocellulosic materials, even though anaerobic digestion consumed a large portion of organic matters in the wastes. Utilizing the nutrients and lignocellulosic materials in the digestate is critical to significantly improve efficiency of anaerobic digest...
متن کاملPreliminary trials of in situ ammonia stripping from source segregated domestic food waste digestate using biogas: effect of temperature and flow rate.
Batch experiments to remove ammonia from food waste digestate were set up, and preliminary runs undertaken. These experiments were based on gas stripping in a heated column reactor; the effects of different temperatures (35, 55 and 70 degrees C) and gas flow rates (0.125, 0.250 and 0.375 L(biogas)L(digestate)(-1)min(-1)) were considered using biogas as the stripping gas. At 35 degrees C, an inc...
متن کاملReducing Capital Cost and Providing Electricity to Grid by Power Generation from Poultry Farms
Poultry farms for meat or egg production is considered to be a huge business. However, waste including manure can give biogas that can produce electricity. In Pakistan load shedding problem remains throughout the year, therefore biomass being the cheap and efficient fuel for power generation can overcome this problem. This research has been conducted in Abbottabad district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa...
